FAQ's

For materials that have been produced before, this could be up to a month, depending on the complexity. For new synthesises, the time frame is longer. Please get in touch to discuss your specific material.

We will endeavour to work with you to provide single crystals of your desired material. The work is experimental in nature, so it can be difficult to predict the timescale for success.

Navigate to Contact Us and send us a technical enquiry about your material.

Absolutely! We love to talk to other researchers. Please send us a technical request and we will be in touch.

Excellent question. We have multiple techniques including optical-heated and laser-heated floating zone, Chemical Vapour Transport and flux-solvent growth

Yes. Currently, we do not have a budget for this but we are working towards obtaining funding to support the research user community.

For researchers with pending beamtimes at Diamond or ISIS, we would try to provide samples at short notice.

We have over twenty years of experience growing crystals of advanced materials. Many considerations are weighed, including chemical (toxicity, reactivity, congruency), physical (melting point, crucible material, volatility) and practicality (cost, safety, equipment).

The users are expected to pay for raw materials and transport/accommodation.

If the costs are minimal, then we can cover it.

Yes, any proposals submitted without a technical feasibility assessment will be rejected.

We will run the feasibility tests before arranging a full visit for training and growth.

The growth is a collaboration between UCL, ISIS and yourself. You will be the leader of the collaboration. We will jointly own the crystals. You will be free to conduct your proposed measurements on the samples. If you wish to make further studies, please check with us first. Generally, we are very supportive of further measurements and it is good to know what is being done with the samples.
