Guidelines for applications

  • To begin please submit a technical feasibility inquiry via Contact Us. Our experts will evaluate if we can assist you.
  • If viable, we can conduct short feasibiltiy studies to determine the likelihood of a successful crystal growth.
  • If we have a solution for you, then you should submit an application by email to [email protected].
  • This application should be a 1-page summary detailing the need for crystals and the resources you can provide. More information on the application is given below. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis.
  • The Advisory Panel convenes every 6 months to review and rank proposals based on technical feasibility, likelihood of success, and the impact of the proposed research. Projects will be addressed in order of ranking, subject to available resources.

Application requirements

If your technical feasibility assessment is positive, you can submit a proposal for crystal growth at FACET. The advisory panel will review this. The proposal should be one page A4.
It should contain:

  • Background knowledge of the material, including the motivation for study.
  • A summary of the proposed measurements, including large facility grant codes.
  • Briefly describe the known synthesis routes, powder preparation and single crystal.
  • Resources that you are prepared to commit to the project, particularly manpower and consumables. This will dictate which of the two access routes are appropriate.
  • References for the known synthesis routes.
